Andres Iniesta scored in the 116th minute of extra time against the Netherlands, giving the Spanish their fourth consecutive 1-0 win and their first World Cup. They are the first European team to win the Cup outside Europe and the first team to win it after losing the first match. Spain’s offense sputtered at times but its defense, one goal allowed in seven matches, was superb. The best team won, even if they were seldom imperious.
